This book (BOOK ONE) follows the life of an Italian immigrant to Salt Lake City early in the 20th century.
There are some strong points to this novel that make it worth reading. If you are after a gripping tale of life in the immigrant community 100 years ago, look elsewhere. This book is not a page turner.
The main character, Annie, is well developed and I found myself engrossed in her life. The rest of the characters are not nearly as interesting.
The author liberally sprinkles historical facts throughout the book. I found them very interesting and sometimes very germaine to the storyline.
My rating is 3.5 stars. If you would like a detailed accounting of life 100 years ago, you won't go wrong picking up this book. I am not sure if I will read the next book in the series. It is not that the next book will not be worth reading but that there are so many subjects that interest me more.
